Based in Johannesburg, Count Lupa is an electronic DJ whose sound moves effortlessly between the hypnotic depths of 3-step, the euphoria of house, the seductive pulses of tech and the raw, unapologetic edge of gqom. DJing since 2025, she has delivered an exclusive Isgubhu mix for Apple Music, appeared on Kiss Xtra (UK), 5FM, YFM and Vow 88.1 (South Africa) and ZiFM (Zimbabwe), and made her international debut in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in October 2026. With an evolving sound rooted in African rhythms and global influences, Lupa aims to amplify and fuse electronic music on the world stage.
A free spirit with a rockstar heart, Count Lupa uses music to connect, uplift and transport, celebrating where she comes from while sharing the fusion of sounds she has experienced around the world. As an African-rooted electronic DJ, her sets blend house, tech, 3-step, gqom and other dance genres, taking listeners on a journey from internal introspection to collective release.
Count Lupa began DJing in 2025 and has spent the year since inside South Africa's dance music community, where her approach is rooted in rhythm, movement and connection. Born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, she treats a set as a conversation between rhythm, culture and emotion rather than a sequence of tracks.
Her sound sits in house, tech, 3-step and gqom with a global edge that marks her out from the field. Every set is built as a single story: introspective grooves at the open, a slow build, then moments of soaring energy and release. That shape is what Apple Music heard when it commissioned her exclusive Isgubhu DJ mix in August 2026.
On stage she has appeared on lineups with Jade Tootla, Phodii, Sam Deep, Kelvin Momo, Tycoon, MÖRDA, Calvin Fallo, Shake & Les and more, at clubs, festivals and premium live events across the country. In October 2026 she made her international debut with a headline night at Aura Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and in her debut year she has already appeared on five radio shows, including 5FM and Kiss Xtra in the UK.
Her debut single is in production for release in early 2027. The mission has not changed since the first gig: amplify African-rooted electronic music and carry its energy to rooms around the world.
